Supervised visitation is a process where a third-party professional monitors visits between child and parent to ensure safe, low conflict, and meaningful contact. The goal is to ensure worthwhile interaction between the parties in a safe setting.
Safe Supervised exchanges are supervised transfers of the child from one parent to the other. Supervision is limited to the exchange or transfer only with the remainder of the parent/child contact remains unsupervised. Most frequently, precautions are taken to assure that the two parents or other individuals exchanging the child do not come into contact with one another.
No, Professional Visitation Services are available to all families. We do not require a court order to work with you, as there are situations where both parents agree to supervised visits without the court's involvement.
Supervised visits are designed to ensure that a child can have safe contact with an non custodial parent without having to be put in the middle of the parent's conflicts or other family issues. The needs of the child are paramount and we are proud to offer a non-judgmental, unbiased approach to serving family’s needs. It is a tool that can help families as they go through difficult family transitions.
During your initial phone call to North Star Family Services, we will help answer any questions you have and explain the process to try to ease your concerns. We will ask you to email a copy of the court order, if applicable, and will then schedule an intake appointment with each parent, separately, to review the supervised visitation agreement and program guidelines. Once this has been completed by both parties, we will set up a supervised visitation schedule and location that meets everybody’s needs and visits can begin immediately.
When we do supervised visitation, we attend to your family until the court no longer requires it, a protective order is lifted, or factors come together making the services no longer necessary.
